Roboethics Call for Papers: TILTing Perspectives 2011

An exciting new conference covering roboethics issues: TILT Perspectives 2011.
“The Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT)” Submission of abstract is due October 15th 2010. Notification of acceptance and invitation to write a full paper is November 1st 2010. Conference itself will take place 11th and 12th of April 2011 Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

CFP: Special Issue on Roboethics – IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine

I have a very exciting news for all the roboethics researchers around the world.
A call for papers on a special issue on roboethics have just been released from IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine(RAM)! Yes, the RAM is running a special issue on roboethics!!
Deadline for submission has been set to September 1st, 2010 (so that’s a little less than a year from now).
Guest editors for this special issue are Gianmarco Veruggio, Mike Van der Loos, and Jorge Solis.
All three of them are very approachable and active figures in the field of roboethics …

Currently there’s a roboethics related conference called ‘ICT: that makes the difference‘ being held in Brussels, Belgium.
Dr. Gianmarco Veruggio is the keynote lecturer for tomorrow’s (Tuesday Nov. 23rd 2009) session at the conference titled “Robotics and convergence of the real and the virtual“. His lecture is called “Roboethics: Social and Ethical Implications of Robotics”.

I wish I was there to listen to some of the talks, but sadly I’ll have to wait until papers/presentations become available on the web.

Apparently, China is planning to hold a Humanoid Olympics in 2010 (June 2010 tentative).
Details can be found at the BBC website here.
What’s interesting here is that the robots that will be allowed to participate at the Humanoid Olympics are limited to “android robots designed in human forms, with two legs and two arms”. The reason being “the idea of the competition was to drive innovation and produce robots that are more flexible and helpful.”
