CFP: Robot Ethics Anthology (MIT Press)
There’s nothing like the tingly feeling I get when I receive roboethics related Call for Papers.
First, there’s the excitement that motivates me to write or to think about writing. Then, there’s the anticipation for the papers to be published. Regardless of whether I end up contributing or not, there’s that exciting feeling of ‘I can’t wait for it to be published so that I can start reading them!’.
So here it is, a Call for Papers for Robot Ethics Anthology. I believe the CFP was first sent out about 1~2 weeks ago, so I apologize for the late posting. But I still felt the need to share the excitement with you.
ROBOT ETHICS ANTHOLOGY (MIT PRESS)
We – Patrick Lin, George Bekey, and Keith Abney – are editing an anthology on robot ethics, to be published by MIT Press.
This is a first-of-its-kind volume that will cover a full range of issues related to the social, policy, and ethical impacts of robotics, such as: risk, programming and design strategies, privacy, sex, healthcare, domestic labor, environment, military, criminal uses, international law, and more.
We already have several prominent roboticists and technology ethicists signed up as contributors, but we’re always happy to hear about new research. We’re specifically interested in papers related to entertainment, religion, security, and other societal issues. Technical papers should not be too technical, as this volume is designed for a broad audience.
If you are able to deliver a new paper (5,500-7,500 words) for this anthology by May 1, 2010, we’d be happy to consider an abstract, which may be emailed to Dr. Patrick Lin at palin@calpoly.edu.
Please include your current affiliation or a short biosketch, including contact information, with your abstract. All submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Feel free to distribute this call for papers to colleagues.
Thank you!
