First Humanoid Olympics to be held in China – says BBC

12 November 2009 No Comment

Apparently, China is planning to hold a Humanoid Olympics in 2010 (June 2010 tentative).

Details can be found at the BBC website here.

What’s interesting here is that the robots that will be allowed to participate at the Humanoid Olympics are limited to “android robots designed in human forms, with two legs and two arms”. The reason being “the idea of the competition was to drive innovation and produce robots that are more flexible and helpful.”

There’s lots of robotics competitions out there, but it will be interesting to find out how the Humanoid Olympics impact not only the engineering community, but also how people perceive humanoids.
